Meet Your Coaches

Tara McAllister, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is a linguist and speech-language pathologist who studies speech learning in various populations, notably children with speech sound disorder. As director of the Biofeedback Intervention Technology for Speech (BITS) Lab at NYU, she has conducted multiple studies measuring the efficacy of acoustic and ultrasound biofeedback in the treatment of persistent speech sound deviations. BITS lab research is funded by the NIH National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders. Since 2014, Dr. McAllister has directed the development of staRt, an iOS app to make biofeedback speech training more widely accessible.
Lindsey Hockel, MS, CCC-SLP, is a Texas-based Speech-Language Pathologist who specializes exclusively in the R sound. In her private practice, she works solely with students struggling to master R, and for years, she has integrated the staRt app into her therapy, using visual acoustic biofeedback to unlock breakthroughs. As the founder of Rock the R®, Lindsey creates high-impact materials, resources, and professional development to help fellow SLPs feel confident and effective with R. She has worked closely with the creators of the staRt app to bring this powerful tool into the hands of more SLPs and is passionate about bridging tech with real-life therapy success.
